"Devoting a post to reflecting upon how I reflected upon my service at the time I first reflected upon its entirety kinda makes sense. … I think. ;^p" - LOL, this cracked me up!
Still superb and moving, jofty, your speech.. it may not be short on wisdom after all. It's peppered with wisdom throughout, perhaps just not in the "wisdom section." And I can't think of a tougher speech to write than one for retirement!
First of all, I'm glad you enjoyed that. I wrote the sentence myself and it made me chuckle a few times during review. ;p Finding a balance with levity considering the occasional gravity of discussion here is likely to be an ongoing and fun challenge. I thought perhaps the paragraph with the plethora of "p"s may have poked a toe across the line, but that just kinda wrote itself and it seemed wrong to tamper with it, much.
Thank you for your kind words. :) Your comment just reminded me of something I didn't include in the post. When I first started writing my retirement speech I remember the "wisdom" section did shrink quite a bit from some use of cut and paste to other sections. I didn't remember it being left so bare by the time I got to the podium.
And yes, my retirement speech was the most challenging thing I've ever written -- my first public post here included, and that was a special and new kind of challenge.

Oh! Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the “p” paragraph! I forgot to mention that!
