Each of your posts is another mile marker of healing!

Thank you. :)

If most of my mile markers feel like healing, I’ll call that a win. My journey provided some fun twists and turns so far, and I am rather curious to see what comes next.

The fog occasionally lifts just enough now to give me some choice. I like that. ;p

About your Vatican photos, I’m in awe at the photos and one day I hope to visit the same places. Your comment “…some stone dude with a cool beard” cracked me up, lol. I’m not surprised that The Immaculate Conception brought forth such feeling for you; Mary will do that!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the photos, and didn't find that particular comment too irreverent. :) As for the statue, it was impressive, particularly with the feeling of .... something ... it presented. The Sistine Chapel was certainly the highlight of the tour, but I 'felt' more in the Immaculate Conception room.

...for anyone confused, this comment is from my 'Visiting the Vatican' post, here:

Terry, it's interesting to hear that driving on the highway has a therapeutic effect on you.

I'm not a fan of driving, even though I was an Uber driver for half a year.

But yeah, I'm curious if you are a fan of cardio exercises? And if you are, does it give you the same therapeutic effect as driving?

Thank you for your comment, G. :)

As you mentioned, it is specifically the highway that I find therapeutic. I dislike fighting traffic as much as anyone. :)

As for your Uber driving - how did that go for you? I did Lyft for a short while after I retired. The hardest part was talking to people, especially while driving unfamiliar roads. I didn't expect that to be a challenge. It may be time to try again. 8^)

Regarding cardio... I am not a fan. I've heard rumors people are supposed to feel good after a quality cardio workout. If that means a Culver's ButterBurger® tastes better after a run, then yeah. ;p Aside from that, I can't recall a single time I finished a PT test, workout, or even a strenuous hike and enjoyed the physical part of the cardio exercise.

Driving on the Autobahn can get my heartrate up a bit. Typically, my ideal "therapeutic" Autobahn experience involves more arm and shoulder soreness than cardio. I find the mental stimulation driving under ideal conditions exhilarating. One time I handed my wife the keys after I did a typically 75-minute drive in 50 minutes because I needed to let my heart rate settle for the day. :)

"Therapeutic" highway driving in the US is more like a day on the golf course. It's generally relaxing, you get to enjoy (or fight) the weather, get some sun, and let your mind wander a bit while you keep your cart on the path and focus on the important things around you. If cardio is involved, either something is wrong, or you're flyin' past the south side of Chicago flowing with the other 7 lanes of solid traffic doing 90-100 in a 65.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

“If cardio is involved, either something is wrong, or you're flyin' past the south side of Chicago…”

That part got me chuckling. Ha.

Driving Uber part-time wasn't too stressful for me, since I only drove part-time.

I get overwhelmed too when there’s too much traffic, so I actually tried to avoid driving during rush hours (definitely made less money because of it though).

The biggest benefit was that it helped improve my social skills.

I'm an introvert by heart, so talking to different types of passengers during non-rush hour drives really helped my social skills.

You should definitely try doing Lyft part-time again. I bet the experience will inspire your writing.

Kind of like tending a garden eh? It's nice to see the fruits of your labors!

Indeed! This is very much like gardening.

Reinvention or self-improvement or whatever this is apparently takes a little time and patience. I've been laboring under the delusion this would be more like fixing a computer. ;p
